HELP!! XP PRO UPGRADE PROBLEMS

D

david

Can anyone help me?
I am trying to upgrade a new Compaq 3045 notebook from XP
Home to XP Pro using XP Pro Upgrade.
Everything goes fine until it won't complete the install
phase (phase 4 of 5) With 33 minutes left, it repeatedly
tries to install SIS M650. Shortly after, it goes into
installing network connections and then reboots and
resumes with 39 minutes to go. It does this over and
over.
I even reformatted the harddrive and reinstalled XP Home
and them tried installing XP Pro again, but the same thing
happened again.
Any ideas?
Please e-mail me at (e-mail address removed)
Any help will be much appreciated.

David:

I just posted a message asking for help regarding the
exact problem you are having. Same computer, same upgrade
attempt, same frustration!! If you get any response,
please advise.

I too am having this problem with similar equipment (CPQ
Presario 3000). Please let me know if you find a
solution. I will do the same!

Disabling the network adapters worked. There was no
option to disable via the bios, however, disabling all
adapters within the network control panel in advance of
upgrading did the trick! Many thanks.

I am having the same problem in that I can't do the upgrade. I did
disable the on-board NIC and the 802.11b-g wireless and it still kept
rebooting.

Here is my idea. Use the original Compaq Quick restore CD and
reinstall the XP Home OS. Then copy the entire drivers to CD or a
network resource. Location: C:\windows\system32\drivers

Then what you do is do a "FULL" install of WinXP Pro. Hopefully you
have the Full ver. I will then get the OS back up and running and
then copy the entire Drivers folder back into the
C:\windows\system32\drivers area. Hopefully, this will do the trick
and get me over the whole upgrade thing.
