Help with working with categories

I want to be able to work with categories. I use categories to manage my
inbox and tasks, etc.

Is it possible to have a view which shows all items with a particular
category, regardless of whether the item is a email in the inbox, a email
which was sent, a task entry, etc?

Or do I ask too much?

Advanced Find will work across all item types.
A search folder will work for email across different folders but not for
other item types.
