Hello,

I just loaded XP onto a second machine and I created the user "trapper".
The machine name is "trapper000". Now I notice that I have the account
"trapper" and "trapper.trapper000". I also have the folders "all users" and
"all users.windows".

I looked at the first machine that I loaded, and it doesn't have users
listed twice. For example, there is only "All Users".
I can't update the rest of the machines until I figure this out, so any help
would be appreciated.

This is what happens if the machine goes to create a profile called 'x'
and finds one is already there - it either appends numbers, the machine
name, or '.windows' (according to some logic I can't ever figure out).
If you have the machine running, then typing 'set' in a cmd window will
list the environment variables, and 'Userprofile' points at what it is
actually using. The other one is a dud (or at least 'old version).

What you need to think about is how come these profiles were already
(apparently) on the machine (did you format the disk as part of the
install? Did you copy something from another machine at some point? Did
the install hiccup, and do some part twice?).

You can move where the profile is used from with XP Pro .. not so easy
with XP Home.

Thanks GSV,

I am running XP Pro. How do you move the profile, or delete the folder?
