Hello,
my DEP settings are turned on for all programs with the
"MS directx diagnostic tool" placed in the exception list.

However, Dxdiag still blows up with the data execution prevention
error box. The next time I start Dxdiag, I get a message telling me
that a problem was found with directshow and would I like to skip the
check this time. If I skip it, Dxdiag runs OK, but if I reply no it
fails again.

There are messages found in the event log that looks like this:

Faulting application dxdiag.exe, version 5.3.2600.2180, faulting
module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x0159bb60.

How can I troubleshoot further?
Thanks for any info.

I found a program in
F:\WINDOWS\RegisteredPackages\{44BBA855-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}
called dxdllreg.exe. This program does as the name suggests,
registers the Dx DLL's.

After running this program, the problem was resolved.
