Help with shortcuts.

after right-clicking the desktop and selecting new\shortcut, the wizard
doesn't appear to let me specify a location, all that happens is a shortcut
is placed on the desktop named shortcut with an invalid windows icon.
Any ideas?

Hi Paul,

Follow the procedure suggested by Kelly.

You may try this also.

Solution 1.

Click Start | Run | Regedit
Goto this key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.lnk\ShellNew

In the right-pane, check the data for the value "Command".
The correct entry is "rundll32.exe appwiz.cpl,NewLinkHere %1"

NOTE: If the "%1" is missing, the New Shortcut wizard won't appear.

Solution 2.

You can fix this scenario by downloading the .LNK association fix from
Doug's site:
