Help with response from another group

MrB

I posted the question below and got the response you see. It seemed to make
sense until I tried it. I can't seem to get a follow-up reply from Marlof. I
did a search in Address Book Help for categories and it came up dry. Also
how would you set a filter in address book? If someone could clarify, I
would be grateful

I have a Viewsonic V35. I would like to input business phone numbers to
the address book. I would also like to have them backed up when I sync. I
don't want my Outlook 2k address book cluttered up with the business
contacts.
Is it possible to do what I want to do? Suggestions will be appreciated.

If you don't want the records to exist on your desktop in Outlook, the
answer is no. Everything added on your Pocket PC will be synchronized to
your
desktop. Even synchronizing by category won't prevent that. But there's a
way
around the clutter, and that is still by using categories. Create (or use an
existing) category for all your business contacts, and in your Outlook 2k
address book, set a filter to exclude those. They will be backed up to your
Outlook database, they will exist in Outlook, but you won't have them in
view, therefore don't see the 'clutter'.

Look at your contacts - open one, look at the categories field/button in the
lower-right corner. That's where you create/apply categories.

adjust your view under View-> Current view (it could be that "Arrange by" is
in between that I'm on an Outlook 2003 machine now) and choose Custom
Current View. Here you can set filters or whatever you want to custom your
view.

Good Luck!

yep, you need to configure your Addressbook
settings
for
this.
Tools->
Addressbook and in addressbook Tools-> Options.
Set
"Show
this
list
first"
to your contacts.

OK, I'll risk dragging this on for one more
message.
Is
there
a
way
to
open
contacts instead of address book when I click
Glad to help :) and you are correct
on
the
last
part.

Thanks, that's it. The filters only seem
to
affect
the
contact
list,
not
the
address book, so I guess I would
still
see
everything
in
the
contact
list
if
I open the address book.

adjust your view under View-> Current
view
(it
could
be
that
"Arrange
by"
is
in between that I'm on an Outlook 2003
machine
now)
and
choose
Custom
Current View. Here you can set filters
or
whatever
you
want
to
custom
your
view.

Good Luck!

how
to
set
filter
in
address

Look at your contacts - open one,
look
at
the
categories
field/button
in
the
lower-right corner. That's
where
you
create/apply
categories.

I
can't
seem
to
get
a
follow-up
reply
from Marlof. I did a search in
Address
Book
Help
for
categories
and
it came up dry. Also how
would
you
set
a
filter
in
address
book?
If
someone could clarify, I
would
be
grateful

I have a Viewsonic V35. I would
like
to
input
business
phone
numbers
to the address book. I would also
like
to
have
them
backed
up
when
I
sync. I don't want my
Outlook
records
to
exist
on
your
desktop
in
Outlook,
the
answer is no. Everything
added
on
your
Pocket
PC
will
be
synchronized
to your
desktop. Even synchronizing by
category
won't
prevent
that.
But
there's a way
around the clutter, and that is
still
by
using
categories.
Create
(or
use an existing) category
for
all
your
business
contacts,
and
in
your
Outlook 2k address book, set a
filter
to
exclude
those.
They
will
be
backed up to your Outlook
database,
they
will
exist
in
Outlook,
but
you won't have them in view,
therefore
don't
see
the
'clutter'.

I was going through that as well (but then on Technet). I wanted to ask you
whether or not you were connected to Exchange. Most of my experiences with
OL2000 are in corporate mode. I believe you can also setup your e-mail in
Corporate mode and configure an SMTP/POP3 e-mailaccount and it will probably
also solve the original addressbook question :)

Roady,
Look at this link: http://www.slipstick.com/contacts/olconpab.htm

It says that address book is available in OL 2K if running in Corporate or
Workgroup mode. I am running in Internet mail only mode. Do I read this
correctly?

This is the location it really should be here (I'm starting to feel like
installing Office 2000 now);
Tools-> Services-> Outlook Addressbook
if it's not there Add-> Outlook Address Book should be there

Is there a Diskette... button next to the services you can add? You might
have not installed the Outlook Addressbook functionality then :-S

option

choose
to
install?
(sorry, I'm getting lost as I can't remember Outlook
2000
too
well)

It was checked and grayed out.

in
the click
on
need
to
goto
Tools->
Addressbook. When you goto the options you will see
this
screen
(attachment). Then follow earlier instuctions.
As
I'm
on
an
Outlook
2003
machine I can't be 100% sure if you have the same
addressbook
:-S

Hope this helped :)
