Help with my AD Server

L

Lisa

Here is my set up:

Server running W2K Advanced SP4. Two PCs running W2K SP4.
One PC running XP PRO SP1. All PCs and server have all
updates applied.

The PC that is currently running XP crashed and I had to
rebuild it and put XP on the PC. It was running 2K. The
problem is that now GPs are not applied to the XP
machine. When a user that has GP allied to them logs on
to one of the PCs that is running W2K GPs are applied
fine. They are just not applied on the XP machine. I have
also tried to set up a group and give all users membership
to that group and then apply GP to that group but I still
had no luck on the XP machine. This is not a replication
issue as I have waited a long time to make sure this was
not the issue.

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

When you rebuilt the machine, did you delete the original domain account and
rejoin the domain?

The machine was formatted and given a new name and a new
IP addy. I originally thought it was because I used DNS
from my IP instead of my server DNS. I am now pointing to
my AD server for DNS like all the other machines but still
no luck. I have assigned it an IP addy now also.

Thanks again.

So, let me make sure I understand. The computer is joined to the domain, and
adminstrator can log onto the domain from the workstation, but a user can
not.
How do you know it is not getting the GP. What is the GP and what does it do
to prevent users from logging on.
Is there someting in the GP that would prevent it from getting to the XP
machine.

Everyone can log on. My GP blocks changing background,
screen sizes, block certain control panel items, etc. As
a work around what I have done is create a new GP and
assign it to the individuals I want it to apply to and
mimic the other GP. It was just not being applied to the
new XP machine when anyone logged on. Not sure at this
point why my default GP would not be applied to the new XP
machine. I do have it pointing to my server for DNS. The
search goes on...
