Help with Maddening puzzle!!

My machine got infected with a horrible virus. Re installed everything but
for some reason it lost some of the drivers.

Have now re installed all of them but the bit that is driving me mad is as
soon as I load the NVIDIA driver for the graphice card it won't display more
than 640 ???

If I un install the driver it displays fine but in device manager is says no
VGA card installed......

Is there something simple I am missing, I know it is the correct driver...

Help please it is driving me mad!!

Usually that's because the driver doesn't work with the card. I remember
having an AGP Asus card that would not run using the ATI Detonator
drivers--you had to use the drivers on their website (that hadn't been
updated since 2004).

Try using drivers from the card manufacturer's website and see if you have
better luck that way.

You may not need an asus driver. You haven't stated what video card you
have. You say you're loading the Nvidia driver, so something has clearly
given you the indication that your card has an Nvidia chipset of some sort.
Do you know what video card you have? If not, what prompted you to try to
install Nvidia drivers?

The Asus thing was just my personal experience; it could happen with any
manufacturer (but isn't common).

Apologies if this all seems pretty stupid but I have not had to do this before!

When I first ran tried to install the video driver i asked Windows to
install from the net. It ran a search and said that I needed the NVIDIA
Geoforce 6200 Turbochache driver?

It downloaded all this OK and installed, but when I try and adjust the
resolution in the NVIDIA software or Windows it will not have it!

as soon as I diable the NVIDIA driver it works OK...
