Unless you come across an old Microsoft Windows
95/98/ME installation CD, you'll be unable to install
the upgrade version of Windows XP Home Edition.
A "Full Version" of Windows XP Home Edition is what
you'll need to purchase.

You don't need to install ME first. During the XP installation, you will
be asked to provide qualifying media (your ME disk). Obviously, if
you've lost your ME disk you can't do this. Borrow a qualifying disk
from a friend or you'll need to purchase the full version of XP.

Hi,

Borrow a friends Win95/98/ME disk, any of them will work as a qualifier. No
files are used from those disks, they just allow the upgrade disk to do a
clean installation.

Bid on one these:

Or select a Buy It Now option for Windows Millenium Edition. An upgrade
version of Windows ME will work for you. All you really need is the CD.

Yes, but rather than buy a Full version of XP, I'd recommend buying a used
copy of a qualifying product--Windows 98 or Me--which would be very
inexpensive and save a lot of money.
