Help! with getting rid of old archive folders

I had some old (empty) archive folders that I deleted
via "My Computer," leaving only the archive folders that I
currently use. However, the old ones they keep showing up
on my Outlook folder list; and when I try to do anything
to them -- open, close, whatever -- I get an error
message. How can I get rid of these? Thanks.
 
If you deleted the folders first, before removing the references from
Outlook, you've made a bit of a mess. It might be easiest just to create a
new profile.
