Help with folders please.

side ofWhen I launch FP03 the screen shows a list of folders under C:\....My
Documents\My Web Sites.

I have somehow put my web page files inside of a folder, inside of a folder.
When I publish the address bar shows my images folder as:
index.htm/folder/folder/images.

How can I undo this (folder inside a folder) so it just shows:
"index.htm/images" in the address bar after I publish?

Thank you.

Your Images should not not appear like: index.htm/images.
They should be in a root folder (actually they can be almost anywhere) but, typically it would look like this; yourwebsitename.com/images

Open FP
Open your Web (Site) - you did create a Website right * ?
Open the View | Folder List
Drag your images from the bogus folders into your Image folder
You'll be prompted about hyperlinks...say OK if needed.
Delete the extra folders if you don't need them.
and for good luck:
Tools | Recalculate Hyperlinks (this may take a minute)
Then RE-Publish to your server.

Thanks for your assistance. I have copied the images from the bogus folder to
the Image Folder in the view Folder List area. All images in the Image Folder
now have a description, for example, of image/thename.jpg. I have copied the
web page files out of their folder onto the view Folder List area. I have
published, just the index.html and the Image Folder. But I still see a home
page with no images. Any assistance will be apreciated. Also, when I publish
the Image folder, the pop-up says now copying thie to mydomain/image' it has
the '. I don't know why it has the ' after the word image.

Why don't we step back a minute here.

Please define what it is your are trying to accomplish
rather than what it is you are doing.

For instance, you want to display all of the pictures in
your image folder on one page. Or you want to display all
of the pictures in your image folder on their own page
(ie, one picture per page). Or you want to display a
listing of the file names in your pictures on a web page.
You get the idea.

How are you publishing?

Why are you selectively publishing only the index page & image folder?

You did create a Web (Site) first right?

Thanks again for trying to assist me.

Yes I created a web site.
I am publishing by selecting File > Publish Site in Front Page.
I am selectively publishing only the index page & image folder because the
other pages aren't finished yet and I just want to have something uploaded in
my domain space for now.

You need to let it publish everything except the pages you're working on...mark ONLY those pages as "don't publish". See what happens.

You shouldn't have Copied those images, you should have just moved them.

Also, did you Import those images into FP _first_ before you placed them in your design (when you originally brought them in)?

I will publish everything except the pages that I'm working on. How do I
"mark" pages?
You shouldn't have Copied those images, you should have just moved them.
The Images were in a file within a file. How would I have dragged them out?
Is it now a problem that I've copied them? If so How is it a problem?
Also, did you Import those images into FP _first_ before you placed them in your design (when you originally brought them in)?

No I didn't import them. I copied them into 'My Pictures' on my computer,
and then I copied them onto my web pages. Is this a problem?

Thanks again for your advice. I look forward to your reply.

In View | Folder List, Right Click on pages you don't want to Publish, select Don't Publish. Earlier versions of FP may not have had this choice..I think 2000+ does though.

Same as above... View | Folder List and just drag files out of folder into other folder. FP will automatically correct hyperlinks.

YES. If you wanna be happy for the rest of your life...always Import the images INTO FP First ! This way FP knows who they are and where they belong (thats the technical explanation :)

Thanks again for your time.
Ok. I see how you can 'Mark' the pages you don't want to publsih.

1. How do you unmark them when you want to publsih them?

2. Also, what is the difference between Publishing only Index.html, by
marking all other pages as "Don't Publish" (except index.html)? and Simply
dragging the Index.html file and Image file over to the web server side?
Wouldn't this accomplish the same thing?

3. You said "always import images..."
I will in the future, but as of right now I have a long list of images, some
created by FP (like headers, footers & shadows) and some are pictures from
other sources. Are you suggesting that I can't use the Images that I've
copied from my other folder, and that I have to go back, start over and
import all of these images?

The Images show up when I preview the pages in FP03, so in all likelihood
they are still linked correctly, wouldn't you think?

Thanks again. I look forward to your reply.

It's a toggle...just right click again and the ones that are selected previously as Don' Publish will now say Publish...or something to that effect.

Probably not. Honestly, dunno since I don't do it that way...I tend to stick to methods I know work, at least on my real webs that I'm not trying to deliberately blow up :)

No. This is most likely why your images are not working in some pages. All you have to do is re-Import them and let them over write the existing ones on your web. Then Recalculate Hyperlinks 'should' fix the links.

Shadows? Never used them, they may be created by VML, if they are they will not be visible in most browsers. I stay away from Word Art, FP's Draw feature and any of that stuff...cause it's usually not seen in anything but IE browsers.

Have fun!
