Help with editing audio in mm2 needed - please

I have created a project with a series of video clips
(with audio) interspersed with the odd title page and
still photo.
What I now want to do, is to overlay some audio/music
soundtracks that only play during the title pages or over
selected stills, allowing the sound of the video to play
when they come into view.
Therefore, I'm looking at being able to set the
audio/music to fade out when it comes to a selected
point, the video/audio comes in at this point, then the
music audio fades back in at the selected point, which
would be at the end of a video section.
However, I do not want to keep re-starting the same
music/audio at the beginning, basically, I want to mute
or pause the music at certain points for specific
durations.
It seems a basic requirement to me but this is the first
time I've done anything like this and I can't find a way
of doing it.
Can it be done and how?

Right click on the audio track and you get a menu of audio choices. To limit these options to a particular space on the timeline, cut where you want the audio to start and cut at the stop. This creates a clip in which you can set the audio without affecting the rest of the movie. Repeat as needed. Also, to fade audio (cross fade) in and out of adjacent clips, put the curser on the audio track. Move it a little until the hand closes to a fist and you get a blue bar. Then drag the beginning or end of the audio into the adjacent clip. You will see a blue bar and be dragging a blue triangle into the adjacent clip. Cross fading like this prevents a sudden, and very noticable, change in audio when you turn it off during titles or stills. Hope this helps.
