Help with ackup utility in XP Home

I recently partitioned my HD using Partition Magic 8.0. My C drive crashed.
The good thing is that I made a back-up copy of "C". When I restored "C" it
worked, but my drive letters had changed=no programs worked. I don't think I
made a copy of the "system state".

If I made a copy of the "system state" and restored that along with "C"
would this have happened? My thinking is that it had something to do with
the registry.

When using Ghost, would that make a copy of the registry as well?

Thank you in advance for the help.

Depending on how you made the backup, the backup was a full state backup
which supersets system state. Note however that if you used NTBackup, you
get most of a full state backup. Parts of the registry are intentionally
skipped and one of those branches is in fact that branch that controls
partition enumeration.

In reverse order, yes, system state does include registry. Depending on the
tool, the answer is maybe. See above for why.

Yes.

Thank you in advance for the help.

Assuming the problem is solely one of partition enumeration, use diskmgmt
(start->run->diskmgmt.msc) in safe mode to alter the partition enumeration.
