Don White

My XP Pro system crashed to a black screen. Now I can't
boot from my HD, my XP CD, or even the XP boot floppies
that I created. BUT....I CAN boot from my old Win98 CD as
well as my Win98 boot floppy. When I try to boot with an
XP CD, the system stops at "Windows is checking hardware
configuration" and that's as far as it ever gets. When I
try to boot with my XP boot floppy, the system just simply
stops booting with the floppy drive light still on. As I
said, my old Win98 boot disk and CD work fine...but I
can't access the NTFS partition with it. When the system
first crashed, I had an error at bootup that said my
HAL.DLL file was either missing or corrupt...but I can't
boot with an XP boot disk to fix it. HELP!!!!

Hi Don, You probably got a virus like i got some time back. I had to format
my disk and reinstall windows xp home.
Try it with the FDISK option from the windows 98 boot floppy but please wait
for some expert advise from this group cause i am not an expert.
One more thing...keep your anti virus software updated.
Regards,
farid
