help w/ new HD

Hi,

I just installed a second internal HD into my new Dell Dim2400. The C drive
came jumpered to CS, so I jumpered the 2nd drive to CS as well. (They are
both on the same channel/ribbon cable.)

After booting up, my computer (running XP Pro) recognized the addition of
new hardware. Going through the Install HW Wizard and looking in the System
Info, I see that my computer recognizes both disks and sees the second disk
as a Maxtor (correct) and that it is functioning properly.

When I go to My Computer, it doesn't show it at all.

How do I access the drive? I want to mount it as D:, and
format/partition/etc it.

Some info:

* The 2nd disk is a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 - 80GB Hard drive - 3.5"
ATA-133
* My computer currently says D and E are the DVD and CD drives.

TIA,

Steve

I found the answer to my question on the Maxtor web site:

My Computer --> right click --> Manage --> Disk Manage. I allowed the
wizard to initialize the disk as a "basic" device. Then, outside the
wizard, I selected that new partition and told the Disk Manager to create a
New Partition, and then partitioning it...

I was even able to remap the drive letters so that C and D are the HD's and
E and F are the DVD/CD drives.

Thanks to anyone who may have attempted to help me out!

On a related note, could I have installed my new HD on the EIDE channel onto
which the DVD and CD drives are attached? If so, I assume that I jumper the
HD as a slave (or, am I wrong and I have to jumper it as a primary)?

Is there a device limit to a channel? Can I have 3 devices off that single
ribbon cable?

TIA,

Steve

Oops!
What I meant to say was, thanks for the hard drive info,
for I had the same exact issue you did with adding a new
drive.
As for the other thing you asked,(I'm no expert on this)
I did not think you could get more than two devices on
one IDE channel, and thats why the IDE ribbon cables have
only two other connectors. (But I could easily be wrong).
Anyway thanks again.
