Help! Vista Glitch on 3 Different Laptops!

E

EnigmaEchidna

Can someone explain why this is happening? The first time I saw this was
using the 2 Sony Vaio laptops from the CR series both running different
verisons of Vista (Premium and Business). I returned them and bought a
factory direct HP laptop and now the same issue is happening.

I thought it was a hardware issue, where a certain part was malfunctioning
but nothing came up in the tests and currently my score is a 3.6 and that is
because of Windows Aeros. I know that all the programs that I have been
running have been Vista complaient, and this only occurs after 3+ hours of
use.I have friends running different Verisons of the OS, and have not had an
issue on their desktops or laptops to date.

I have already tried a Restore and Recovery, but that doesn't seem to solve
anything.

I have been told so many things from Tech and Geek Squad Agents.

1. They gave you a beta copy of Vista and not the final verison of the OS

2. You're graphics card is ODing because of the wallpaper and settings.
(Even if I was the defaults).

3. The error is occuring because I ahve to uncheck "group together similar
taskbar program" box from the task bar properties.

Um...explain why WHAT is happening? Unless I'm missing something,
you never said what the "glitch" was that you are experiencing???

The reason I didn't go in detail about this "glitch" is because I had
submitted the photobucket links below for a reason. Those links are
screenshots of what I had been going through with all three laptops since
mid-December to present.

The programs that I have been running on Vista that were downloaded are
Trilian (IM client), Slim Browser by Flash Peak, Ventrilo v. 2.3 (voice
chat), IceChat (irc client), and AVG Free. Some were of these programs were
either straight from the company site or from C-Net's Download.com. Like I
said in the previous post, these programs are labeled as Vista compatible.

What I am referring to as the "glitch"... is after 3+hrs of non-stop use,
the program which I might be using, like the Slim Browers or IceChat, will
become off centered and the text box or a youtube-esque type video will
overlap. Trillian on some cases would be become insanely streachted, but what
is most discouraging is what have been happening to the task bar in which any
program that is minimized in the task bar will move right behind the start
button icon. I can not even use the start icon button or the windows button
to get into the start area to get to the shutdown area. If by chance I do,
the floating shut down choice menu is completely blank. Also I cannot do a
proper drag and drop. The second I click on an icon that I want to drag and
drop when this glitch is occuring..all the icons become highlighted. I can
only clear this up after doing a restart or log off then on again by doing
ctrl +alt+delete, but this can be very bothersome if I have to stop working
on something to clear this problem up.

The best way to really understand what I 'm trying to explain is to actually
look at photobucket links that I had supplied and will supply again. I just
think that by actually looking at these, then you would getter a better grasp
as what I am going through.

Come on now, just because M$ says the programs are compliant does
really mean they are.

I'm sure Frank or some MVP will jump in here and tell you it's a third
party app problem.

Oh and BTW, check for new drivers for all of your hardware.

If this is a Vista problem with a mainstream retail laptop, ALOT more
people would've had this problem. I'd hazard a guess and say it's a
driver problem.

Where did the OP say MS said they were compliant? The makers are the ones
that claim compliance. So if there is a problem, it's them that lied, not
MS.
I'm sure Frank or some MVP will jump in here and tell you it's a third
party app problem.

Not Frank nor an MVP. From what he has said however, it appears to be
something in the video subsystem. Could be Vista, could be the way the
programmer programmed it, could be the drivers. My fiancé has the same
chipset I do, but the drivers under XP have popped up a block of pixels in
the center of the screen, while the same rev of drivers works flawlessly un
Vista for me. So it could be anything. If you're going to make comments, and
least try to be unbiased. And credibility you may have is negated because of
your antipathy to MS.
Oh and BTW, check for new drivers for all of your hardware.

Ah, the old blame MS but tell em to check their drivers ploy. Again, for
your credibility's sake, at least try NOT to contradict yourself.
