HELP video card failure??

Andrew

My computer sporadically freezes and then the monitor
just goes dark and then tells me that its not receiving
any video input...my video card is a nvidia geforce 4
mx440...i just bought it last year, and it works fine
most of the time...I just don't know whether its a
software or hardware problem. Sometimes when it fails,
when i reboot (if i can, because many times when i try to
reboot i just get a black screen with no video coming to
it) windows tells me a device driver failed, or something
happened with a driver. I don't know whether i need to
get a new video card, or there's just a driver failure or
conflict that i can do something about. PLEASE GIVE ME
ADVICE, I really hate it when i'm working on a paper and
my computer just cuts out. Thanks.

look in the device manager for any unusual device states
also check the event viewer for logged error or informational
messages.

Sounds like a cable connection problem, or a cable
pin problem. Check to see if they are all straight.
I've had several problems especially with Appian
cables and the little pins , bent over.

Try shaking the cable around and watch for a reaction.

If not, reinstall software.

If your using Nortons System Suite , that too has many
problems that might effect your video output.

Little hint: To get a faster screen redraw, reduce
your color to 16 bit rather than 32 bit color. Reason?
The human eye cant tell the difference.

Good luck on the video
