Help Using Windows Mail on Vista Premium

Sandra Lougee

I have been trying to make my windows mail work and I keep getting this
message:

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'test',
Account: 'incoming.verizon.net', Server: 'outgoing.verizon.net', Protocol:
SMTP, Server Response: '550 5.7.1 Authentication Required', Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

I have an MSN account and a google account.

Both MSN and Goggle are web based e mail accounts, they are not designed to
be used with a e mail client. You do not neet to use your vista e mail
account. Vista e mail is for an e mail account set up by your ISP.

Hope this helps.

MSn legacy accounts(fee based) work fine in Windows Mail. Msn legacy accounts are no longer available to the general public.

Google Mail accounts once configured via the google site have pop3 capability and function in Windows Mail.

GMail(Google) settings for pop3/smtp servers are available on the gmail site.

MSn legacy pop3 settings for Windows Mail are provided to all msn members with legacy accounts.
