HELP! using Microsoft access on database

James

Hi:

I opened an API account so I could do research on
the Google database. Unfortunately, I am not a programmer
nor have any real ability in that field and quickly
realized that it was way above my abilities. I am very
interested in researching keywords used on google's
searches, similar to what "Wordtracker" does using
the "KEI" but substituting different Formulas and ideas.
I am a teacher and not a programmer and I'm interested in
why people search for certain topics with a particular
keyword and a number of other variables.

Could you please explain to me how to get microsoft
access(1997) to open Google's database and how exactly I
would apply my formulas. As mentioned I have Google's
permission to run studies on their database. Once I have
accomplished this I am hopeful that I could use my
knowledge to study the other databases of Search Engines
and do comparasion and hopefully get my ideas published.

I'm embarrassed that I lack such fundamental
abilites to run my studies but would truly appreciate any
help or suggestions.

Thank you,

James

Really? Did they tell you what kind of database they use? Informix, SQL
Server, SyBase, Oracle, TeraData, etc? Did they provide you with a user ID
and a password? (If so, please do NOT post them here!) Did they tell you
what drivers and versions thereof you will need to use to connect with their
database?

Did you tell them that you are not a programmer and advise them of what
tools you are planning to use? I also wonder if Google would appreciate
your discussing connection methods to their servers in a public forum.

As a presumed academic researcher, surely you realize that the statistical
methods that you apply to your studies and, if using a computer, the
programming used to implement your statistical methods can make or break
your study - get it published or rejected. I suggest that you may want to
look for a talented programmer at your university, possibly among the
graduate students, and pay him or her to work out these details with Google.

Hi:

In addition to Cheryl's very valid concerns, bear in mind that
Access97 is a desktop database, limited to 1 GByte of data in any
single .mdb file; Google's database is surely MUCH MUCH larger than
this.

Take a look at the above screen shots, they are quite cool. You can see that
it is quite easy to use .net services in ms-office now.

So, yes, you should be able to use that API. However, you will need to
upgrade to office xp (a2002) for the web add in to work. You will also need
to download the soap ad in. The above article does have a link to the soap
download.

I don't believe that the soap (web services) add in will work for a97, but
for office xp (which has been out for a considerable amount of time) should
work just fine.
