Hi All,

I am having problem boot up my notebook with a Hitichi harddisk.
The OS is Windows XP. Whenever I try to boot up, I will see blue
screen.

I removed the harddisk and plugged it to a external USB disk and
connect it to another PC. I was able to see the disk under E drive
however I can’t access to the drive. Whenever I tried to access the
drive, I got "error performing inpage operation".

I downloaded the testdisk tool from http://www.ranish.com/part/ and
I was able to list the file in the disk so I think the files are still
intact.

Anyone can please help to advise how to recover the data in the
disk. Those are all important working data and I need it urgently.

Any advise is appreciated.

Thanks and regards,

Dpang

So the 1st thing you do is download and install 3rd party software !!!
Try at start-up,tap the F8 key,then select safe-mode with networking,enter
as administrator. If that doesnt work, install xp cd,boot to xp cd,then
select R
for recovery,press enter for password.Then type:CHKDSK C: /R
When its thru type:EXIT Let xp restart. If problems still exist, boot to xp
cd,
then select, install xp,select:repair this copy You wont loose files or
settings,but
all xp updates are lost.

Hi!

Have been facing relative type of problems sometimes.

Thess type of cases are usually too individual to give any general advice to
recover ...

I would begin with analysing, which detailed boot-up steps are gone through
OK and on which step about the blue screen appears and which error message is
noted on it. These things could be seen e.g. by loading to Safe Mode with F8
and having /crashdebug parameter in boot.ini etc.

Also a disk test tool, a bootable PC-Dos v.7.0 program Drive Fitness Test
v4.00, could be downloaded from Hitachi pages
http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT
to check the general condition of the drive on any available PC connected
directly to the IDE channel with a 2.5"/3.5" adapter.

Best regards,

Pete V.
