Of course you can. Naturally how you do this depends on how you
upgraded. See:

Restore a computer to a previous Windows installation after you install
Windows Vista - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933168/en-us

If you didn't do an actual upgrade, then simply do another clean install
and use the XP install disk.

Vista requires more resources to run acceptably than XP. How much RAM does
your computer have? If you only have 51MB RAM, moving to 1GB RAM will
improve performance quite a bit. Especially if your computer uses shared
system RAM as video RAM.

Drivers can also play a part in performance. Many drivers for Vista are not
fully realized, i.e., they are not mature.

Post the specifications for your PC (CPU, RAM, Video (Display) adapter, Hard
drive type/size, etc.) here and I'm sure you'll get plenty of responses.

Good luck,

Be aware that much of the software that is now on your computer may
not work with Vista or cause some unexpected gliches which will make
you wonder if youy comuter needs a new motherboard, memory, harddrive,
graphics card etc etc

And before you go out and buy that new expensive software, contact the
company and ask if their product is Vista compatible. You'll get a
response like, "Uhhh well, we're working on that. But go ahead and buy
it anyhow. We'll send you an upgrade as soon as we work things out."

BYW, say goodby to Outlook Express if that's your mail reader.

I also am having a lot of problems with vista and would like to go back to
XP, but I'm afraid I'll lose all of my files and settings if I go back to XP
using the directions in the article you mentioned. I also am not able to
make a back up because my dvd burner apparently doesn't work with vista.
Please help!

You posted in the middle of someone else's very old thread. Make a new
post and include all pertinent details. This link will show you what to
include:
