That was a very poorly planned project, and you have created a real
mess for yourself.

Are you able to boot the computer successfully into Windows XP (not
64)?

If so then delete the C:\Windows\64 folder and all of its contents.
You may have to boot into Safe Mode in order to do this.

Then use Start - Run - MSCONFIG and go to the BOOT.INI tab. Click on
the buttion to "Check all boot paths". That should clean it up.

If problems persist then you may have to do a Repair Install of your
Windows XP http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Good luck

i can boot both and both are working fine (apart form 64 doesnt reconise my
pre installed programs but that was to be expected) i just dont want the win
64 on my comp any more and dont want to do a sloppy uninstall
how clean is deleteing the windows 64 folder and clearing the boot?
is there no way to simply uninstall windows 64 only?

Not that I am aware of. Uninstalling an operating system normally
only works when you have installed that operating system as an upgrade
over a previous operating system and you have chosen to preserve the
files from the previous operating system. In that situation the
uninstall will revert you to the previous operating system.

But when an operating system is installed as a new "clean" version (no
upgrade) then the only way to get rid of it is to manually wipe it
out. Under the normal practice of installing each operating system in
its own separate hard drive partition that is usually quite simple -
just reformat the partition. But with the two operating system
intermingled on the same partition the only possible option that I am
aware is to manually delete the files and folders from the unwanted
operating system.

Good luck
