Help - Unable to view wireless network via XP

C

Clay Doxey

I just bought a D-Link Wireless Router (DI-624 Rev C) and D-Link PCI
Wireless Adap (DWL-G520 Rev B). The PC with wireless PCI Adapter
communicates fine with the router when SSID is default. I tried to
change my SSID in the router and the same in the PC via adapter's
properties under advanced, but it would not connect.

I want to bypass Windows XP wireless functionality and when I right
clicked the network connection icon in the task tray and select "view
available wireless networks", it brings up the "Wireless Network
Connection" window and everything except cancel (e.g. advanced button,
connect button, and available wireless networks list) is unavailable
(greyed out). What would cause this when the wireless network is
functioning?

I replaced my older linksys wireless-B router and USB Adap with the
new D-Link devices. I uninstalled all the Linksys Apps that were
installed before adding the new stuff. Is there something left over
that is conflicting with D-Link stuff?

I tired to search for similar problems in the groups and could not
find anything.

If anyone has any ideas or knows how to solve this problem, I would
really appreciate it!

(Would prefer not to hear "you should have not bought D-Link"!)

Thanks in Advance,
C. Doxey.

Don't use the DLink utility to control the adapter. Uninstall it and
enable XP's built in features:

Open services and scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration Service,
Start the service and set it to automatic. If it does not show in the
list of Services:

run regedit and find

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WZCSVC

add a DWORD entry named "Start" and
value "2"

Worked like a charm! Thanks for the help!

One question, you prefer Windows XP over D-Links Utility?

I never install the DLink utility on XP systems. Or any vendors
utility. I always use WZC.
