Hi,

Yesterday I tried to connect from one of my home pc´s (on/via a LAN) with
win xp and sp2 to a friends pc - also with win xp sp2.

I got a invitaion via email from him with the link to connect to his pc.

When I activate the link nothing happens and the connection task could not
be made.

I have opened port 3389 in my router and my friend had also made it possible
to access his pc in the firewall settings in his wan connection.

I have a static IP - but my friend is connectiin via dhcp to the isp.

Why do you think that I cannot establish a connection? Please ask for more
informations if wanted ;-)

Hi,

Is remote assistance enabled on both machines?
Does it attempt to connect and fail or not start at all?
Is SP2 installed on both machines?

No and no.....he's decided to get an expert friend to extract his stuff from
the HDD and download it elsewhere then do a format/clean install of XP.
Thanks for the help.

I suppose so - cannot check at this moment.

Dont start at all.
Is SP2 installed on both machines?

Yes.

On the LAN I have a win2Kserver into which I have forwarded port 3389 on my
router. There is no forwarding to port 3389 on the XP machine.....I have to
correct this.

But this missing forwarding will that result ia imediate fail (on my XP
machine) when I try to access/connect via the link which I have recieved from
my friend?

Hi,

Check the port forwarding, and also have him send you a new file. The old
one may be corrupt.

Hi,

The forwarding is ok on both distinations. I will add this to my problem:

When I activate the recieved link I am promtet on my pc to accept connection
to my friends pc.

My pc is trying to connect but after a while I am promtet that the
connection could not be established because the name on the remotecomputer
could not be found. Try again It says.

Why is that and what is the problem in this?

My pc has SP1.........when I try with another pc with SP2 to connect to my
friend nothing at all happens I am not promtet to accept the connection - the
SP2 machine has some problem which the SP2 machine doesn´t have.

Is there known problems with SP2 and remotehelp?

Hi,

It means your friend's system is either firewalled or the port forwarding is
not setup correctly.
