Help Synching Laptop to Desktop ?

I need to improve the way that I transfer e-mail (Outlook 2003 in XP Pro)
from my desktop to my laptop prior to trips (is this called synching?). I
currently use the built-in export/import functions and use date filters to
limit the number of messages to a manageable .pst file size. I have to do
this for each of several folders (inbox, sent, etc.). I also am not clear
about what is meant by "this month", "last month", etc., in the filters (by
"this month", do they mean since the first of the month, or the last 30
days?).

Is there a reliable program that can do this for me, i.e., corral all my
desktop e-mail into a .pst or equivalent file without all the work? Any
advice would be appreciated.

Firstly, do NOT use the export/import function to transfer data from one
Outlook to another. that's not what it was designed for, and can (and does!)
cause data problems.

I use a program called synchtoy to transfer the entire PST file from Desktop
to Laptop and back. It is freeware and can be found here
