Help: Saving images in IE6 & OE always as untitled BMPs

For some reason, my XP Pro system has lost the ability to save
images shown in IE6 or attached in OE as their native jpg format.

When I right-click->Save Picture As on a displayed IE6 or OE image,
or if I click on the "Save" button that appears in the little box that
appears
when I hover over an image in IE6, I always get the "Save As" dialog
box showing as "untitled" in bitmap format. The Save As dialog box
doesn't give me an option to save in JPG at all. (I can save a JPG
attachment in OE just fine...)

Can anyone help me figure out what the problem is? This is
terribly annoying.
