Help ReInstalling Windows (Stop 0X0C2 and other problems)

I have a Dell Dimensions 8400, P4, 3.4 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 160 GB SATA running Win
XP Pro. Well, it was.

While trying to profile a new monitor, I started having some
difficulties.Troubleshooting with the Colorvision help desk, their engineer
finally suggested I reinstall my OS. I decided to do a clean
reinstall/reformat of XP Pro. After the first attempt, when the computer
automatically rebooted I got the following message:

Windows could not start because the following file is
missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM 32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
You can attempt to repair this file by starting
Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

From that point on, anytime I boot with the Dell Win XP Pro disk, I get to
the screen where I can select to repair the disk by selecting 'r'. Now I get
:

BAD_POOL_CALLER

*** STOP: 0X000000 (0X000000043, 0XC2E2E000, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

or some variant thereof: What can I do? I have done all the system
diagnostics with no errors. Memory, hard drive, and controller check out.
But I can not get past the Bad_Pool_Caller to repair the system.

If you reformatted/formatted your drive you would have to do a clean install
of XP. But you said you reformatted XP and how is that done?

For Windows to be missing the file you mentioned is not unusual. Do your
clean install again and maybe this time it won't happen.

Your system hardware and OS is proprietary by Dell. They would be your best
source for help. Dell makes things unusual or not normal and the people who
are most capable of helping you don't ordinarily use proprietary systems/OS.

If I understand your post correctly, you never completed the install. If
that's the case, perhaps that's why the repair will not work.

Correct. The install was never completed. Here is the sequence that I
went through. I selected the Bios screen at the Dell splash. From the Bios,
I selected the CD-ROM driver as the boot drive. With the Dell Win XP Pro CD
in the CD-ROM drive, the boot continued. When prompted, I pressed a key to
allow booting from a CD. I went all the way through the Windows
Installation. When the machine did the automatic reboot at the end of the
installation I got the following message:

Windows could not start because the following file is
missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM 32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
You can attempt to repair this file by starting
Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

I selected 'r'. The Windows Setup screen came back up. I selected "enter"
to install Windows. When I pressed F8 to accept the agreement, I got:

BAD_POOL_CALLER

*** STOP: 0X000000c2 (0X000000043, 0XC2E2E000, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

If I restart the computer, press any key to boot from the CD-ROM drive,
get back to the Windows Setup screen and select 'r' for repair, I get to the
Wincows XP Recovery Console screen which shows the one drive ( 1: C\Windows
) as an option for repair. If I enter "1" for the query "Which Windows
installation would you like to log onto (To cancle, press ENTER) ?" I get :

BAD_POOL_CALLER

*** STOP: 0X000000C2 (0X000000043, 0XC2AEE000, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

I can still get to the computer diagnostics by selecting F12 at the Dell
Splash during startup, as well as to the Bios setup screen (F2), or to
Diagnostics or a DOS prompt using the Dell Resources CD as the boot CD. But
those are my only options so far.

It is a viscious cycle.
