HELP -- REGISTRY EDITOR DISABLED - WHY ???

only recently when i start my computer the above message
pops up - any ideas why ?? i have alos noticed that i can
no longer load pictures to ebay (which i use regularly
and have had no problems with until now) - is the problem
connected ? and if not, what do I do about the registry
editor thing ?

Sounds like a virus. Many virii disable the registry
editor and other applications that would be helpful in
eliminating the virus.
Get process explorer (www.sysinternals.com) and see what's
running, or use regedt32 (if you have it on your system).
Either way, do a good virus scan on your
drive/memory/boot, etc. Get mcafees' Stinger, too.

Thanks Rich - but can't use regedt32 as it is disabled.
Have recently cleared the mm32 blasterworm from my PC
using macafee virus checker, and using it at present
finds no probs - sysinternals is doubledutch to me - I am
only a humble occasional home user of my PC - help !!!

It may be related to the Swen worm, or a variant, which prevents these
system utilities working.

A cleanup utility is available if you go to
http://www3.ca.com/virusinfo/virus.aspx?ID=36939
and in Characteristics, Cleaning Utility available, click the 'please
click here'

Do that on an uninfected machine. Extract the ClnSwen.com and
FixSwen.inf files from it, put them on a floppy, set that to be write
protected, then on the infected machine

First right click on the FixSwen.inf and take Install. It will remove
registry entries that may prevent the 'Clean' program from running, and
I think should fix your immediate problem. Then run ClnSwen.com to make
sure that is clean too
