Hi! Iam using Win98Se with internet Explorer V5.
I am sharing my home d/top with my son. I am using for personal productivity
apps. whilst my son was using it for d/loading mp3 & surfing.
Lately, some problem has surfaced.
-1)my homepage selection on the |TOOLS| INTERNET OPTIONS|GENERAL.
was grey out.-it was replaced by a http://www.xxxxx.mp3.com
Now I cannot change back to my prefered homepage.

-2)When I try to goto -start-Run-Regedit, I get the error mssg
"Registry editing has been disable by your system adminstrator"

Could it be one of those trojan or any virus?
Please help - how can I retain control of my system.

thanks for helping

can you run MSCONFIG?
or CNTRL ALT Delete does the close program window stay up?
if they both close quickly then you may have a virus (although that
one may have only hit NT OS's)

Start with AdAware and SpyBot-Search & Destroy; see what they turn up.

AdAware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

SpyBot-S&D http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

Yes, I can run msconfig & control, alt & delete as usual.
I have also use Adware & spyware and the result were quite a number
of apps such as =weather, =save, =booker & 4 more misc.apps.
But each of them requires that I run the registry editor to remove these
apps.
I will try out JAD suggestions and hope for the best.
Thanks
