Using windows XP. Somehow all of our saved video clips, most of which were
'mpg' (downloaded from digital camera and up to now working correctly) have
been changed and now the file definition on all of them is 'jpg'.
Obviously they will not now play but just show still photo.
Have tried everything we know to solve problem. Whatever programme we try
to use to open them we get either 'file not recognised' or just a still
photo.
We have been using Picasa for some time - no problem.
Did open Movie maker so whether that has any bearing on the problem.
Any help on how to solve this problem and be able to play our video clips
much appreciated as we just don't know where to go from here.
Thanks

Rename one from video1.jpg to video1.mpg and see if that helps. If so,
you can do a mass rename.

- Back up ALL files in the foldeer you want to try this on.

- From a CMD prompt, change to the proper folder, type:

REN *.JPG *.MPG

Have tried but will not enable me to change from 'jpg' to 'mpg'.
As to the cmd prompts this is all new to me so am very wary.
It just seems as if the video clips do not exist any more but cannot
understand how it happened.
Thanks for the advice anyway

Right-click one of the files, click Properties. Is it shown as Read
Only? If so, deselect that. Then right-click the file again, click
Rename, change the extension.

But, if you can't see the extensions, you'll be renaming the file from
Video21.jpg to video21.mpg.jpg That won't work either.. you'll have to
change Folder Options to show extensions. Then you can change the actual
filetype.
