I am having an issue with a local printer. Why is it that when a user logs
on to the computer locally, that user has access to the printer just fine,
but, when the same user logs on to a domain, that user can no longer print
to the local printer? How can this issue be resolved? It has to be
possible for a user logged on to a domain to have access to his own local
printer.

Please help. Any input or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Need more Info;
Does your computer still recognize the printer when your
logged onto the Domain?

Setting the printer as shared while logged in as local administrator may
resolve it.

So when you go to print a document, the Printer is
available and you can select it in the Print screen. But
when hitting Print nothing happens? What exactly is the
problem?

Yes... that's exactly it. Why can't he print to his local printer? It's
there and he can select it. But when he tries to print something to it...
nothing happens. No error messages or anything. How can I get him to print
to his local printer while connected to the domain? He can print just fine
when logged onto his local computer, but that doesn't help him if he has to
print out a document or email which is only available to him while logged on
to the domain.

What should I be checking? What could be wrong? Is it a permissions issue?
I thought that by logging in to the machine locally and setting his network
login as having full permissions to print to the local printer might solve
the issue, but when he logged back into the domain, the same thing was still
happening. Please, Mitch, do you have any idea what might be the problem
here? Do you have any suggestions that I can try?

Thanks for the ideal. Just went and tried it to see if it would work. No
dice. Any print job sent to the local printer while logged on to the domain
still vanishes with no error messages.

Your welcome. Sorry it didn't help. In one client site I have several XP
domain members able to print to local printers and have never seen a problem
like this. Very strange. Does the job spool (show in printer queue and
then sit there)? What model printer is it? Anything relevant in event
logs? What OS on the domain controller?
