HELP PLEASE.....TASKBARMSNGR.EXE

HELP!!!!!!!!!!! We're being inundated with a problem effecting 30% of
our users. We are getting hit with a taskbarmsngr.exe file on our XP
Pro SP1 or just plain XP Pro....the file messes with using Word and
Excel (opening files), some have problems with their email (GroupWise),
others have problems with their desktop icons disappearing. We have
found this file in the registry and have removed it and have taken it
out of start up, but it keeps coming back. Please let me know if
anyone has any insight to this....some of the users are at a
stand-still. This does not affect our XP Pro SP2 users. I cannot find
anything on this file on the Internet........HELP BEFORE WE LOSE OUR
MINDS!!!!!

I've tried spybot/adaware/deleteing everything I can find that I dont
know what it is, and I cant seem to smash this taskbarmsngr.exe
spyware/virus(?), any help would be awesome

I FINALLY HAVE A SOLUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we have found that doing the following (has to be followed
carefully)WORKS!!

we use McAfee Managed Defense Virus scan.......so the first thing we do
is update our definition files to 4456.

1. Pull network cable and boot PC in Safe Mode and log-in as an
Administrator on the local workstation.
2. Start, Run, Regedit. Go to the edit menu, then select Find.
Search for taskbarmsngr. Delete all instances that are found with the
search. (pressing F3 will search the registry for the next instance
after deleting the prior instance).
3. Browse to C:\Windows\Prefetch. Go to the edit menu and select all
files. Delete all of the selected files.
4. Browse to C:\Windows\System32. Locate and delete taskbarmsngr.exe.
5. Go to Start, Run. Enter msconfig. Uncheck any entries for
taskbarmsngr.exe. When msconfig is closed, select Exit without
restart.
6. Go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Cleanup.
Select ONLY the following to delete by placing a checkmark next to:
Downloaded Active X programs as well as Temporary Internet Files.
7. Reboot PC in normal mode leaving network cable unplugged.
8. Install XP SP2 via CD-ROM.
9. After rebooting from SP2 install reconnect network cable.
10. Run windows updates.

you should be free of taskbarmsngr.exe now. it's a pesky little thing.
We found out that this file was a problem around 10am EST, with the
teamwork of our IT Staff, especially our Assistant Network Admin, and
McAfee's team of experts who actually analyzed the taskbarmsngr.exe
file, we had a solution by 2pm EST.

It seems to be affecting only some of those with SP1 depending on what
Windows Updates they have applied in addition to the SP1.
