Hello,

My lovely wife, trust me I am being very sarcastic at the moment, messed
up my laptop. It was running xp pro upgraded from xp home. Some how she
started to reinstall windows. Now my system wont boot up. I am currently
reinstalling the os on \windows1. Once this is done how can I recover all of
my applications and settings etc. This was is also the one I use for work so
I need help asap so I can hopefully fix it and not let me boss know. I truly
appreciate any help!!! Thanks.

Doing the install the way you are you will probably be able to recover your
files (assuming your "lovely" wife didn't format before install) but you're
going to have to reinstall the programs. Once all is done you should be able
to remove the old Windows directory.
If your Laptop has a CD Burner your best bet is to back up the files on a CD
(after the install your currently doing is done) and then do a clean install
of XP and your applications so that your directory structure is the same as
it was before.

kwoyach,

Thanks for the quick response. I went into recovery mode and did a dir
and saw the file structure still intact (Thank goodness or I might be
calling her my x) What about my documents should it be safe to retrieve them
after the reinstall?

The new install is supposed to leave those folders intact so it shouldn't be
a problem.
If there is any way for you to access them via boot disk etc... you may want
to create a directory and copy them there just to be safe though since the
Documents and Settings directory will be used by the new install.
