Don't use the resize button - drag the window to the right size.

Try the following workaround.
.. Open a single Internet Explorer window to the smaller size.
.. Drag the corners of the window until it completely fills the screen. Do
not use the maximize button to enlarge the window.
.. Hold down the Ctrl key, keep it depressed, and using the mouse click File
and then Exit on the menu bar. Do not use the "X" in the upper right corner
to close the window.
.. Internet Explorer should now open in a full window.

.. If it still opens to a smaller size repeat the above instructions,
substituting the "Shift" key for the "Ctrl" key.

To prevent Internet Explorer from continually changing its size every time
it is opened.
This is done by changing the Maximized key to yes.

Start>Run>Regedit
Locate this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Document Windows.
Now modify the Maximized key to yes.

Note you can save the registry key first by:
On the File menu, click Export.
In the File name box, type SaveKey, and then click Save.
Or create a system restore point prior to editing.
Note: If the registry key is not there, you can simply create one by going
edit > new.

Hi John,

1. Open a link.
2. Don't use the maximize button.
3. Stretch the edges/corners so that the window fills the screen.
4. Close all other IE windows.
5. Close the stretched window last.

However, the above procedure is not equivalent to SHOWMAXIMIZED API call.
Best option is to use "IE New Window maximizer"

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1746
(Uses Windows API calls and automatically maximizes every browser window you
open)

That should have read

Tried both Shift and ctrl still the same, this problem appeared about 3 days
ago before that all links opened in a bigger page.

Reset Internet Explorer Window Placement
Fix available here:

or use IE new window maximizer. It works great.

I use a program called AutoSizer: http://www.southbaypc.com/AutoSizer/

Works on all program windows, not just IE. Very configurable.

Open such a link.
Don't use the maximize button.
Stretch the edges/corners so that the window fills the screen.
Close all other IE windows.
Close the stretched window last.

To control the size of primary and secondary IE windows, start by closing
all IE windows. Then launch IE, right-click on any link, and choose Open in
New Window. Size the secondary window the way you want all such windows to
be. Now close it by clicking on the X icon at the top-right corner while
holding down the Shift key. Repeat this for the primary window that remains.
You may have to repeat the process from time to time.

If you always want your home page to open in precisely the same size and
position, you can add a little JavaScript to the home page URL. Select
Internet Options from the Tools menu and edit the Address line in the Home
Page panel so it looks something like this: javascript:resizeTo(1024,400);
moveTo(0,0);document.location.href='http://www.yourhomepage.net'.

You can also edit any Favorite in the same way. Right-click on the item in
the Favorites menu and choose Properties. In the URL field, enter a command
like the one above. When you click on OK,IE will tell you there's a problem
and ask whether you want to proceed anyway. Click on Yes.
