I live near the Golden Gate Bridge and I am about to throw myself off
I have a brand new ZyXEL DSL modem, which works perfectly well when
connected directly to the computer.
I connect it to a brand new DLINK NIC, which seems to work perfectly.
My computer performs perfectly and has no hardware problems I am aware of.
I have a brand new Netgear router and when I connect the modem through the
router to the computer, I get the same problem every time. Believe me I have
been through this many times and have spent hours on the phone with tech
support. Everything is hooked up correctly.
The problem is that it won't connect to the DSL network. Other computer in
the house with adapter will sense that a router is present but not connect.
Incidently, the problem is not the router because I borrowed a Dell laptop
and hooked up the connection and it worked fine. It seems to be some kind of
Windows settings problem.
When I have the router hooked up and through the CMD prompt I ping the
Default Gateway address I get four "general failure" results.
A little added information, all firewalls are disabled when I try this and
as far as I know I do not have Service Pack 2. When I connect directly
through the modem, it is a PPOE connection. Can anyone offer any suggestions
on this.
