Help please: IE6 to IE7 to Netscape and NOW NOTHING!

I had IE6 on my computer, upgraded to IE7 - hated it, reversed the install of
IE7, then IE6 didn't seem to work so I downloaded Netscape 8.0. I didn't
like Netscape 8.0 which was (at that time the default browser), so I
uninstalled. Now I can't access the internet at all every time I try I get a
message about not knowing which application to use. I thought I'd go out to
the internet to download IE6 again but I can't get to the internet to do it.
I'm at work but I can't download on a work computer.

Any thoughts? I reset the web settings to no avail.

I'd appreciate some help please.

Hi,
You used the Reset button in Internet Options> Advanced, right?

Go to Control panel> Add/remove programs> Set Program Access and Defaults,
choose Microsoft Windows or Custom. Make sure IE is selected as the default
browser.

It might be worthwhile to check the file association settings for
URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol
From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm
- - -
Open Windows Explorer.
Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types.
Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol (NOT URL:Internet Shortcut)
and select it.
Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version.
Select 'open'.
Click Edit.

"Application used to perform this action" should read:

"C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
(Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the
double quotes.)

DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have:

#1:
"%1",,-1,0,,,,
#2
IExplore
#3 (blank)

#4
WWW_OpenURL

URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same.

Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE.

Can a friend download Firefox (5.7 MB) from http://www.mozilla.com and put
it on a CD for you? Install it to your computer to get a working browser.

Hope this helps,
Don
