Help please - How to save "View" and "Audio" preferences

Hello Forum!

Is it possible to save my preferred "View" settings in Windows XP ?
Whenever I use My Computer or Windows Explorer I usually have to begin by
changing the view to that of "Details" so that I gain access to all the
relevant file information like size, type, date modified etc. The other
views like Tiles or Icons or Thumnails are pretty, but don't serve the
purpose intended. I would have expected the Details view to become the
default view setting after the first use, and that it would continue with
view until you saved new preferences, but the view always reverts back to the
"List" option that I must change with every dialog or drop down box I select
thereafter.

I find it strange that something so simple and common in other aspects of
the operating system is not present in this situation. I must have missed
something somewhere along the think curve.....

I have a similar problem with my sound card settings. I have a Creative
Technolgy Live! sound card which displays the basic sound settings in a
couple of different formats depending upon component choice. The "Mixer"
component is much the same as the Windows "Volume" selection. Regardless of
which component I choose to use however, I must re-set my preferences each
and every time I access the application including when I simply minimize the
window; in minimizing the window for example, all listed devices revert back
to being "muted" which can become a pain in the butt when listening to music
or using the TV tuner card. I have changed those mute settings in maybe 6 or
8 different places within Windows and they never stick to what I chose,
applied and okayed.

Does anyone know how to save these preferences once so that they become the
default configurations whenever loaded?

I would appreciate any and all suggestions. I thank you in advance for your
help...

Not to sure about your Creative Card but if you go to Windows Explorer and
select Tools>Folder Options>View. Click
Apply this view to all Folders and that should Lock in whatever you
selected. Details, Icons etc.

Please don't wait a couple of years next time. You are always welcome
here if you have any concerns about WinXP.
