Help Please DVD/CD Rom Windows Explorer

G

GuardianWill

Greetings,

It seems as if I am in Trouble. My DVD/CD RW drive and windows explorer.
When I place a CD to install, it seems to work, and to play an audio as well
it seems to work. Now when i wish to explore the CD or DVD it shows in the
explorer window a copy of the desktop files and not the directory or its file
contents. I then go to Drive C and select explore and the directory and its
file contents are displayed. This HP gives ACD SEE also, and when I explore
using it the directory stucture is there but no files.

This just happened recently and so I did a roll back and that did not fix.
I removed the driver and reinstalled and that did no good. The program I was
adding files to finds the files and lists them within the form to copy over
but does not complete the copy like it cannot find the files.

Thanks to each of you for helping and anyone taking a moment of their time
to read this. God Bless and I pray for Help!

HP also reinstalled the registry repair for this DVD and still no help...

Go to the Control Panel/Folder Options/View tab, set it to "Show hidden
files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files
[recommended]". Also uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".

Thank you Mark. I tried it but to no avail. It seems as if Windows explorer
knows there is a Disk in there but does not recognize any of them. even
those trusted ones I know worked before this new one.

In Explorer, when saying to explore whats on the CD or DVD It does open the
window but it bouces to the desktop thinking there is either nothing to
display or nothing there. Not sure what is the cause.

Tried replacing the drive with a new one and still does it, once again, only
on the cd/dvd drive all other drives and cards are completely avail for
exploration.

I have a great Anti virus Program and Spyware and even scanned for Root
Virus and all comes up clean. each day it upgrades itself once if not twice.
The firewall is built into the Virus and Spyware.

After playing with it without frustration ruling, I do go to the Explore
Window, and Yes it is on Desktop, so I try to bring it down to The E Drive
(DVD/CD W) Drive and it just bounces back to the Desltop icon and displays my
Desktop Icons.

Oh How I hope soon this silly thing will be fixed. hehehehe Thanks to all
of you!

You may be having trouble with thumbnails. You might try turning off that
feature, and testing. I will list both the turn off and turn on commands
below.

OFF - go to Start, Run, and type:
regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll

ON - go to Start, Run, and type:
regsvr32 shmedia.dll

Thank you again so much Mark, but to unlucky day it was not the fix...

I should mention or make clear, it may not be explorer command recognizing
the disk in the dvd/cd drive but My Computer window does indeed see it.

Also, I know the CD and the Drive truly is working, Silly me came from the
old days, so dropped to DOS using run cmd and then went to the E: drive and
switched from directory to directory no problem viewing all files....

Thank you again Mark. Wow, I was sure hoping this would do the trick it sure
did take awhile to go through its procedures and then of course my reboot is
always a little long. But it did not fix the situation. It has to be
something with the DVD and windows explorer there are no new Flash Rom
updates for the DVD. Microsoft is not saying anything about its explorer
program and if there are any troubles. Its only occuring with explorer and
those programs calling explorer functions and the DVD/CD...
