Help! P4P800 upgrade problem

Markab

Last night I upgraded my MB from an Asus p4b533 to a p4p800. I also
installed 2 new Kingston 512MB DDR400mhz RAM modules and an Intel P4
3.0C Ghz CPU. My OS (prior to the upgrade) is Win XP Pro and Im
running 2 IDE ATA100 HD's and an ABIT FX5200 AGP video card. Since the
upgrade the system boots up EXTREMELY SLOWLY (5-10 minutes!)and it
seems to be booting in safe mode (low res.640x480). The system is also
very sluggish in responding when selecting icons? Any ideas? I hope
someone can help.

Regards,
Mark

PS: I've also tried a number of differnt BIOS setting.

Since you changed the motherboard, I assume you reformatted the harddrive
and did a fresh install of XP. Because otherwise you would be getting
Registry errors and slow performance ...

Wow, I have the exact same combination of RAM, motherbaord and CPU. Oh wait,
actually I have 2x 256 MB. I think it's possible that 2x 512 MB is NOT
supported in Dual Channel mode with that brand of memory, according to the
DDR400QVL list. That is most likely your problem right there, you should
have got 4x 256.

I have the same GFX card too, just a different brand. Heehee.

I assumed he would have, but it's quite possibly he hasn't judging from his
post.

If he doesn't want to do a full reinstall he can do a "repair" can't he?

I put two of these together, and had an issue with one of them, but I
determined I was stoopid.
Be sure you are using the cables for the drives labeled CD ROM and Hard
Dirves on the correct drives.
Additionally (this is what I did)
Be sure all the master/slave jumpers are correct on the drives. I had two
CD-ROM drives set as slave, and I had all sorts of strange problems occure.

You do not say if you installed a clean install of Windows or if you
just reconnected your HD(s).

I just replaced my MB with a P4P800 and reconnected the existing
drives and found I had to use the WIn XP boot CD to repair the
registry.

If this is what you are trying to do send me an email and I will
forward you the info the group so nicely sent me.
