HELP! Outlook requests data over RAS VPN

We have a few offices that access our VPN through DSL and
Cable. Some cannot open Outlook from their desktops; the
program hangs indefinately while it is requesting data
from the Exchange server. Others can open it just fine
with no problem.

When it's working, we can ping the servers name and get a
reply back with the internal IP address. When it hangs,
we get the public IP address.

Any ideas would help save my sanity!
 
If it is trying the public IP, you obviously have a name resolution
problem. You will need to check what name server the unsuccessful clients
are using to receive the public IP instead of the internal private one.
 
But are the clients actually using DNS to resolve it? Or are thet
using Netbios names?
