Help on sharing a PPS with video and music

Guest

I've created a PPP which contains music and video.
I copied the PPP file, Music files and video files to a shared folder for
the users.
I re-inserted the movie and the sound to the PPP File so that it wasn't
looking for them on my drive.
I've turned it all into a PPS.
I created a link in an email to have the user click on.

I think I did all the steps necessary.

I tried it on another computer and it still won't work with the music and
videos.

I then deleted the music and video files from the shared drive to verify it
was looking for them on the shared drive and not my drive. Yes it wants the
files from the shared drive.

I put the files back in the shared folder and still nothing on other PC's.

Any ideas??????

You will have to include your music/video file in the email.

I believe the issue here is that the MCI media player (used in PPT) hasn't
the first clue what to do with a URL/Link. Can I suggest you give PFCMedia
a try and use the "From URL" feature? It was specifically designed to
handle just such a situation. You can down load a free, fully functioning
trial version from www.pfcmedia.com

I think there might be a bit of mis-communication. The Hyperlink that I have
created opens up the file directly from the shared folder. The files are all
in that shared folder.

I've even gone to the shared folder from another computer and ran the PPS by
double clicking on the PPS an still no sound and no music. I can see all the
files in that folder and still nothing.

Thanks again.

Ok, when you created a hyper link, explain how you did it. By that I mean,
did you actualy create a hyperlink, or did you simply insert the file from
that location?

Again, if it is a hyperlink what we are really talking about is a UNC path.
While PPT may know what that is, the MCI player doesn't Kinda of like, Ok I
followed the hyperlink, now what???

But again, I go to the folder on the shared drive and run the PPS (no
hyperlink) and it still won't run the music and videos.

Bascially, the folder has all the material it needs....sound, videos and
PPS. But when double clicking on the PPS it won't run the sound or video.

Thanks.

Sondra,

You have said that a number of times and I understand, what I don't know is
how you created the hyper link.

Sorry this is confusing. Please just take the hyperlink out of the puzzle
for now. I created the powerpoint show on my PC on a shared drive. The show
runs great on my PC.

I go to another users PC open the folder containing the show, run it and it
has no video or sound. (No hyperlink at this point).

Ok, let me see if i have it right.

You have a PC.
That PC shares one of it's drives.
When you run the presentation on that machine all works.
When you go to another machine and try to run it from your shared drive it
fails.

Is this correct?

It might help to see what PowerPoint thinks about all this.

Visit http://fixlinks.pptools.com
Download and install the free FixLinks demo on both PCs where you're testing
this.
On each PC, open the file from the shared folder and use FixLinks to produce a
links report; paste the text of both reports in a reply to this message.

Ah. But first, check Document Properties. See if there's a Hyperlink Base set.
If so, try removing it and resaving the presentation.

I've got a related problem. I have PowerPoint 97 and I've created a
PowerPoint Show with music and timings for animated transitions. It runs
the slides just fine in time with the music on the system where I
created it.

But when I take the PPS & .wav file to another system for playback, the
timings are off.

Other systems either run the slides way faster than the timings call for
so that the slide show ends before the music finishes, or the slides are
slower and the music ends before the presentation is complete.

How do I get the timings to transfer from one system to another for my
PowerPoint show?
