Problem playing music over PowerPoint videos

Okay, this is pretty complicated.

I've been taking documentaries that I've downloaded and editing small video
clips from them with Windows Movie Maker. I save the clips to the hard drive
and try using them on the Power Point presentation. The video clips are WMV
files. The videos play but they don't flow very well at all. And when I try
to play music over the videos the music only plays during the first video
clip, and after the second one starts the music cuts off. But I have the
music set to "Continue Slide show". I also have the video clips set to
"Pause slide show", because otherwise all the videos will run together and it
will sound bad. It really seems like it's all set up properly and should
work just fine.

But I used several video clips with music playing over them on another
Powerpoint that I did, and everything worked perfectly. The videos
transitioned smoothly and the music played over the whole show. The thing
is, those videos were AVI files. I also edited the video clips at my
friend's house with his Movie Editing software, but I'm not sure what kind it
was. Could it possibly only work for AVI files on Powerpoint? I've got
Power Point 2000 by the way. Maybe something about Windows Movie Maker keeps
the video clips from working properly on Power Point 2000? Well, I'd
appreciate any help at all. Thanks.

It is set to Stop Playing After 1 Slide, rather than Stop Playing After
Current Slide.
