i have a crappy 20 gig hard drive. It is off an older HP and uses the fat32
partition. This thing is taking up like 12 gigs of my hard drive. When i
try to erase the partition it says i cant because of setting files that
assist with the install. Does anybody know what i need to do to erase the
whole hard drive and just have xp on it?? help is much appreciated..

How are you starting the installation? That error message will
be displayed if you start the installation from within your
current Windows XP installation. You need to boot your system
from the CD. To do this you'll need to access the setup program
for your computer's BIOS and change the boot device order to
list the CD drive first. Consult the documentation for you
system for help on configuring your computer's BIOS.
