who can tell me if i have a firewall norton intenet security 2004 can a dialer still dial as in a spyware dialer? because i have had so many viruses and crap i see no point in having an antivirus

A dialer is NOT a virus it is a trojan Yes their is a difference along with an A/V you should also use an anti-trojan program.

Although there is a technical difference between a virus and a
trojan horse (a virus is self-replicating and a trojan is not),
the distinction hardly ever matters once you've got it--from a
practical standpoint, they are both malevolent pieces of software
and that's all that counts. Moreover, although it may be true
that most dialers are trojans rather than viruses, that's not to
say that a virus dialer (a self-replicating dialer) couldn't also
exist.

I hesitate to say firmly "there's no such thing as an anti-trojan
program" since I'm not familiar with every program on the market.
But if there's a specific anti-trojan program around, I've never
heard of it. All the well-known anti-virus programs (Norton,
McAfee, AVG, etc.) work to combat viruses *and* trojans (as well
as worms).

If you have an anti-virus program and are still getting " so many
viruses and crap," you either have a poor anti-virus program, or,
more likely, you are not keeping it up-to-date with the latest
virus definitions.

-- 2004 is poor then i dont know what to use and i update every time of connection and to the guy who said anti trojan program i didn`t say a dialer is a virus i asked if it can be removed by antivirus

Thanks. I'm not familiar with it. Then my hesitation was
justified.

Still, my point remains. By and large all anti-virus programs
work on viruses, trojans, and worms.

One of these diallers may have crept in by e-mail and AV do not always
notice them. As an alternative AV a good one, eTrust, is currently on
offer for a free trial year to Windows users (and is not expensive after
that)
