Was running fine under W2kPro but won't start up under XP Pro. I tried all
the 'compability' settings. Game is Dark Colony.

Would a PIF file work? What would I put in it?

Have you tried right-clicking it and setting it to run under DOS mode?

You cant do that with xp. You can tell the program is the advance
not to recognize windows. That does not work most of the time.

I did the right click then clicked on "Run as" and there I told it to not be
conserned with security. That did the trick.
Thanks!

i am having a the same sort of problem i am trying to run the 11th
hour i got it to find the sonds stuff i go and try to run the
program and it acts like it is trys to run and then goes right
back into windows any ideas?

Using Program Information Files (PIF) (like we used to use in Win9x/Me) is a good idea.
Bring up Help and Support (from the XP menus). Search on "create custom startup files for an MS-DOS-based program".
First, setup a shortcut to the program. Then go thru the "properties" of shortcut to specify what it needs.

Look up in XP's Help and Support Center, in its search box:
"Set up two shortcuts for an MS-DOS program "
"Create or change a PIF"

theres also a program called dosbox which allows you to run dos games in
windows xp i have had no problem with running any dos game using dosbox so far
