Hi Group, I'm getting ready to setup a new PC with XP Home pre-installed. I
have DSL, and a Linksys router and would like to know if I should go that
route to connect to Microsoft for product activation or just use the 56k
modem that came with the PC? I want to use the safest method and have no
idea if I'll have a choice when I'm ready to activate or if XP is setup to
automatically connect through the 56k modem.

I'm going to download SP2 from my Win98 machine and burn it to CD for the
new PC and would appreciate the most current link for the download. I'm
assuming SP2 should be the first thing to do once I have XP running, or are
there steps I should take before that? Any help will be most appreciated.

Thank you very much *S*! Followed and read your activation link, booted up
the new PC and discovered that some OEM versions of XP Home are already
activated by the manufacturer, Emachines in this case. Thought I'd post
this to perhaps help someone else. When at least half the world is alseep,
I'll follow your SP2 link and download and burn it. Thanks again, this is a
really great group and I for one appreciate the time and energy you people
put into it.

A new one is likely to come with the system already activated for you.
But to check, wait until you are satisfied things are working (you have
30 days, but don't get near the end), then get on the net, by whatever
means is convenient, and go to
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Activate Windows

That may say already activated, if not use the option to Activate on the
Internet now (which takes about 20 seconds)
