Help Needed!

Recently I have been having a reoccuring problem with
Windows XP. What happens is the computer freezes for a
few seconds, goes black, and when the picture comes back
on the icons are all enlarged and the color of the
screen/pictures/icons are all wrong and distorted. The
only way I can correct this problem is to restart the
computer. I have run a virus scan with Norton Anti-
Virus, but it comes up negative for viruses or anything
else. Please if anyone has a solution to this problem I
