Hi
Can anyone please help.
I archived the contents of MS Outlook prior to doing a re-format on the hard
drive.
Now having installed everything again i tried to un-archive all the folders
created for incomming mail and the contents but all i ended up with were
empty folders.
the second archive i did as a back-up back-up just keeps giving a message
saying the file 160604.pst is not a personal folders file.
Have i lost all my emails???
Thanks for any help
Rgds Kev

Never confuse archiving with backing up. They are not the same.
Do you still have your original PST files? That's what you should save.
How did you do these archives?
Have you checked these files for errors using the Inbox Repair Tool and made
sure they do not have a read only attribute>

Russ
I don't have the original pre-archive files as the hard drive has been
formatted since.
I'm totally new to this archiving aspect of outlook as i have avoided it
like the plague prior to this and now i can see why !!!
I have never used the repair tool you mentioned. The pst file i made was
created just by selecting the inbox and all the folders within and pressing
archive. I have checked the properties of the fiel and it is nt set to read
only plus there must be a lot of data there as it is 30Mb in size. I really
would like to get these emails back and also the contacts list.
Any more help you can give would be really apreciated.
I am using Office Xp ( outlook 2002)

I have never used the repair tool you mentioned. The pst file i made
was created just by selecting the inbox and all the folders within
and pressing archive.

This doesn't save any messages whose modification date is newer than the
specificied or default (whichever is set in the archive function properties)
archive date. So, if you clicked "Archive", then deleted the original PST
by reformatting your disk, I'm not surprised you've lost information.

If i have "lost" all the emails within 14 folders why is the pst file over
27MB in size? surely this means the data is still there or do 14 folders
taken up 27Mb of space!!

I suspect that's the amount of space needed to hold the folder information
and other overhead data.

Well are'nt you just about the most helpful person here Brian? I would love
to be notified when you make a mistake and all the help you get is sarcastic
comments from some Di**head !!

I was never sarcastic and am assuredly not a "di**head", whatever that means
(dittohead?).

As to making mistakes, I've readily admitted to those that I've made in
posts to this group.
