HELP -- Need to reformat my hard disk?

J

Joe

HP just informed me that because I did not uninstall the
old Win ME printer drivers for my HP PSC 500 (printer,
scanner, copier) BEFORE upgrading to Win XP, I have
totally destroyed my ability to use my current printer or
any other printer. They say I must reformat my hard disk
and reinstall XP in order for the PSC 500 or any other
printer to work. This is a terrible blow. It will take
countless hours to reinstall all my software. Is there
any other way to make the PSC 500 work with XP without
reformatting my hard disk?

No you shouldn't have to.

Follow my instructions for uninstalling a printer at:
http://www.coribright.com/Windows/Article One.htm

Because it's an All in One, ensure you also delete the Fax Machine (from the
Printers & Faxes) including any drivers for the Fax in Step 4.

Then go into the Device Manager. Right click on My Computer and select
Properties. From the Hardware tab, click on Device Manager. Look for the
line "Imaging Devices". Click on the + to expand the tree and right click on
the Scanner part of the All in One and right click and select Delete or
Uninstall.

Then reboot the PC.

The installation instructions are at the HP website at
http://tinyurl.com/ng8q

Use the Add Printer Wizard and XP will install its own built in drivers.
