I am running Windows XP (pro edition) on a system and i dont know what to do
It just goes into hibernate or standby? My on button on my monitor blinks and
my wireless keyboard will not work. I dont have to be doin anything and it
will just go off by itself. I spent alot of money on my computer and i dont
really know anyone around here that knows about my computer as to how to fix
it. I tried to start it in safe mode but that does not work. The computer
starts up but the screen is black.....I can hear the monitor start up then
the light on the monitor starts to blink, then nothin comes up on the screen.
When it does work,It has froze a few times and restarted itself. Can anyone
please, please tell me what to do......I am very desperate. I cannot live
without my computer.

Does your PC make any beeps when it boots up??

Your video settings might be a touch off, if you can somehow boot in to safe
mode (F8) when booting up and change the resolution of your video. Some times
this happens if you resolution is to high for your monitor and your PC boots
up but you cant see anything....

I would check a couple of things. Make sure your power button on the front of
the computer is not getting an intermittant short, nor is the
power/hibernate/standby button on the keyboard, if you have one there. Also,
make sure the fan is running above the processor. An overheated processor
will cause wierd problems, like shutting down unexpectedly. (I found this out
the hard way!) And finally, (you may have to connect to another computer to
do this, like using a USB or serial link with someonel's laptop with an
up-to-date anti-virus software installed,) check for worms or viruses. McAfee
has posted a few warnings about a worm that will either shut down a computer
or re-boot a computer over and over. You may have one of those. The
connection to another computer may bring your computer out of stand-by or
hibernation when it tries to connect. Finally, if you have a USB installed
keyboard or mouse, neither will bring the computer out of hibernation or
stand-by since the USB ports are inactive in both situations. You may have to
install a PS-2 mouse to wake the computer up.

With a fault of this kind I would be inclined to try booting the machine
from alternative media, for example a DOS floppy, Windows CD or Knoppix CD.

(You might need to change BIOS settings to allow booting from CD)

If the machine won't boot properly from any media, then you have a hardware
fault. If it will, then you might have aTrojan or virus infection, in whiuch
case it may be possible to boot into Safe Mode and remove it.

I have a dvd burner and it will light up but will not even open and my cd rom
will not even light up so i cannot reboot it from a cd. I tried a different
mouse and still no change it will not beep when its turned back on.
